10 miler and weight training?

So I’ve been training for a 10 miler. I’m up to a pretty solid sub-9 minute per mile for the 10K (6.2 miles).

I have another month and a half before race day. I’m down to a good weight and I feel like lifting weights again (for reasons completely unrelated to the race).

Could a weight training regimen actually help or hurt my training for the race? My current plan would be to weight lift 2-3 days a week, and do a short but intense speed type run after my lifting. Then another 2 days I’d do a distance run, working my way up to 10 miles.

I was thinking the additional eating and or creatine will raise my weight (the downside) but hopefully additional strength/power training might help me increase speed.

Any thoughts?

Larger muscles are usually detrimental to distance running because of their high demand for energy and oxygen. However you are not going to be able to stack much mass in one month so I would not worry about it.
